Compare machine families, not cloud brands
AWS documents P5 instances for GPU workloads; Google Cloud documents multiple accelerator-optimized GPU machine families. Select the required accelerator and topology before comparing an instance price. Different host CPU, memory and networking allocations can change the result.
Check region availability and your account quota separately. A machine type appearing in a catalog does not mean your account can launch the required number of instances in the desired zone.
| Decision | What to verify on both clouds |
|---|---|
| Capacity | Quota plus an actual launch in the target zone |
| Data | Storage locality and transfer path |
| Identity | Workload permissions and secret access |
| Recovery | A checkpoint restored on replacement capacity |
| Budget | Compute, retained storage and transfers |

Existing data is a meaningful advantage
If a large training corpus already lives beside your production services, moving it adds a new operation to secure and maintain. Price the initial copy, recurring changes and the time to validate consistency.
For inference, consider the application path. Placing a GPU in another cloud may add another network hop between the model, database and user. Measure the full request path from the client region.
Distinguish a discount from capacity
AWS documents different capacity benefits for Capacity Reservations, Reserved Instances and Savings Plans. Do not infer that a discounted purchasing option guarantees a particular GPU allocation. Confirm the exact product’s capacity terms.
Apply the same question to the alternative quote: what resource, location and time window does the commitment secure? Match that answer to the experiment deadline before accepting a longer commitment.

Use migration effort as part of the decision
Run a small job with production-style access controls and logging on each cloud. Record the changes needed to move it. A benchmark launched manually with broad permissions may understate the real integration effort.
Choose the deployment that meets the workload objective at an acceptable total cost. If moving saves too little to cover ongoing operational work, keeping the GPU beside the rest of the application can be the better choice.
Questions readers ask
Does quota guarantee GPU capacity?
No. Quota permits a level of usage; the requested allocation still needs to be available.
Which cloud is faster?
No universal winner is established here. Match instance configuration and benchmark the actual workload.
